Tom Osborne Named Temporary AD

Tom Osborne is once again part of the Nebraska Cornhusker family as he took the job as AD until they can find someone to replace Steve Pederson who was let go Monday. Pederson was the guy that Osborne told Nebraska to hire, but the relationship soured after the firing of his close friend Frank Solich is is now coach the Ohio Bobcats.

Bill Callahan hasn't been asked to quit just yet and I don't look for Osborne to ask him to either. If no improvement is seen than look for changes quickly. Osborne isn't a guy who stands pat especially when you talk about losing. Osborne is use to winning and won't stand long for losing especially by large scores. I'm sure Callahan will be on a very short leash.

Nebraska Fires AD

The Nebraska Cornhuskers fired their athletic director Steve Pederson citing lack of the football program showing progress. Trust me being a longtime Nebraska Cornhusker fan it runs a lot deeper than just the athletic director. First of all firing Frank Solich was a mistake as even though he did struggle he learned under Tom Osborne and knew a lot about the program. In fact Osborne even put in a good word for him and he still got fired.

Nebraska hasn't had a coach in there in awhile that has been able to bring top recruits into the program. Nebraska now gets the 6th and seventh best player around. This is why they are getting blown out all the time and can't stop anyone on defense. In fact for most Nebraska fans it's getting downright embarrassing. Firing the AD might be a start but the truth is they have many problems that are going to take years to fix. So this firing isn't really going to make any big difference. It's going to take time.

Now We Know It's Not Rex Grossman

Rex Grossman was benched in favor of Brian Griese and what has that done for the Bears nothing really. Grossman isn't the problem and until the Bears fix there problems they will keep losing. Griese is finding out that as quarterback of the Chicago bears. Grossman was benched in favor Griese and so far the results haven't really made much of a difference.

Looking deeper into the problems of the Bears you can see many flaws. The wide receivers are at best average. They get no separation from the there defensive man which puts the quarterback in a bad position. The defense isn't very good this year as they are missing some people, but the bottom line you have to make plays. Grossman isn't the problem and until you address the other problems they results will continue to be the same.

Boston College National Champions? Just Maybe!

One of the teams no one is talking about is the Boston College Eagles who just keep rolling along winning games and now is rated no. 4 in the country and could possibly have the Heisman Trophy winner in quarterback Matt Ryan.

Nothing really is said about Boston College by National Media all they do is keep winning. This is how they like it and their fans wouldn't have it any other way. One number stands out for me when talking about Boston College and that is there graduation rate on their football teams. Check there number against other big schools. Pretty impressive indeed.

1. LSU 51%
2. Cal 52%
3. Ohio State 53%
4. BC 93%
5. S. Florida 61%
6. Oklahoma 44%
7. S. Carolina 68%
8. W. Virginia 65%
9. Oregon 55%
10. USC 57%

Mariano Rivera Wants Torre Back

Mariano Rivera has an interesting take on the whole Joe Torre situation. It's really pretty simple for him why is he getting fired anyways. He doesn't play for us it's on us. Rivera also has said he would be more likely to come back to New York if Torre was around. Rivera still isn't happy he wasn't given an extension and may leave anyways.

You would think the New York Yankees would have signed him long term instead of waiting until the end of the season and take a chance of losing him. I guess this tells Rivera how important he really is to the Yankees.

When Is It To Old To Play Quarterback?

Well Vinny Testerverde is coming back at the age of 43 to play just a little bit more it seems. Testerverde has signed a contract with the Carolina Panthers to back up David Carr who is now the starting quarterback. It wouldn't shock me to see Testerverde in sometime during this season. People can say what they want about Vinny but he plays hard when he gets a chance.

The Panthers right now only have Carr and they wanted so veteran leadership and who else better to suited than Vinny Testerverde to calm things down and give some pointers to Carr when he needs them. Great signing for the Panthers.

A-Rod The Billion Dollar Man?

Scott Boras the agent of A-Rod think he can play to the age of 45 years old and set records such as 1,000 home runs and also have the all-time hit record. What's A-Rod worth than around one billion if you crunch Scott Boras numbers. In a perfect world that maybe true, but we don't live in a perfect world. A-Rod has become non-existent in the playoffs so in turn should never be paid that kind of money.

Let's really be realistic in this whole scenario. The only player I've ever seen in modern day sports that is worth that kind of money simply put was Michael Jordan. Jordan put up numbers in the regular season and when the playoffs got their he was in another gear. A-Rod just hasn't done that. Be happy with what you have now A-Rod. Until you prove it to America in the clutch your just another high paid superstar that delivers in the regular season and not the post season.

Kurt Warner Keeps On Rolling Along

Kurt Warner has had a rollercoaster career wherever he has played and the NFL is no different. He has been to Super Bowls and now he is the starting quarterback of the Arizona Cardinals. He has been alternating with Matt Leinert as the starting quarterback. With Leinert now gone for the season this season rests on Warner's shoulders. Can he lead the Cardinals to the playoffs?

With Kurt Warner it's hard to figure out as at times he has played extremely well and other times you wonder what he is thinking. In the end though this season it's all going to be on Kurt Warner to perform. The Cardinals need him to play well if they have any hope at all of making the playoffs.

Kenny Lofton Unsung Hero

Once as a Yankee he was called never good enough to be a Yankee. Now kenny Lofton has to be smiling somewhere as many of his hits had to put some daggers in the hearts of Yankee fans everywhere. Lofton played under Joe Torre and it wasn't something he remembers fondly. No matter what though he moved on and now is helping the Cleveland Indians go deeper into the American league Baseball Playoffs.

Kenny Lofton has tons of experience and being 40 years old you would think he would slow down, but that isn't the case at all in fact it seems he has gotten better with age. How many more years he has we really don't know. I guess we will just have to wait and see if anything else is left in the tank.

What's Next For The Yankees?

This could be one of the most interesting off seasons for the New York Yankees for a lot of different reasons. Mariano Rivera for one is going to test the free agent market and i look for A-Rod to opt-out especially if Joe torre isn't brought back. Look for others to leave to. This could be a massive exodus for the Bronx that hasn't been seen in a long time. The Yankees have many issues to resolve.

One of the first things is what to do with Joe Torre. I personaly think he will be fired and they will bring ina former Yankee to manage. Does Torre deserve to be fired probably not, but when you don't win championships heads will roll. As soon as a Yankee has a maanger in place than they can move from their.

Torre Bows Out Of Playoffs

The New York fans may have seen the last of Joe Torre as the Cleveland Indians beat the Yankees 6-4 to claim the series 3-2 and head to Boston to play the Red Sox. It looks like the Yankees are in for many changes including the manager Joe Torre being let go. Torre has done a wonderful job and the players love playing for him. The bottom line is no matter where your at it's all about winning championships.

But, lately Joe Torre just hasn't gotten the job done. Is it all his fault of course not, but that is who the axe will fall on though. Everyone knows it's not fair, but it's the way it works that's for sure.

How Bout Them Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys are either lucky or good as they overcame five interceptions from Tony Romo and defeated the Buffalo Bills 25-24 with two seconds left on a Nick Folk field goal. It looked like for awhile the Buffalo Bills had the game sewn up but the Cowboys would never give up and the Bills never put them away.

One of the things you learn in sports it's but your opponent away, because you never know what could happy in the end. The Bills didn't put the Cowboys away and now they are paying for that. The Cowboys came back and won a game they shouldn't have and the Bills are left answering why.

Ricky Rudd Given Clearance To Race

Ricky Rudd has been given clearance to return to the No.88 race car and resume his driving career for however long it maybe. Rudd had a separated shoulder and is schedule to retire at the end of the year, but you really don't know about race car drivers. they change their minds all the time.

I do look for Rudd to retire and become a part-time driver though which would probably suit him better. he doesn't like the daily grind of the every week racing. he is to the point where he doesn't need it anymore and I can't blame him at all.

Jake Delhomme Done For The Year

Jake Delhomme has decided to have season ending elbow surgery which is probably the best thing for him and the Carolina Panthers. David Carr will now assume the team leader role as the quarterback. This way he won't be looking over his shoulder and the offense can try and get better. With surgery Delhomme should be able to come back better than ever next year for the Panthers.

All is not lost for Carolina as they are only one game out of first place. They can still put it together and make a playoff run. It's just going to be up to David Carr to make plays and we will have to see how well he plays in the next dozen games or so.

Saints, Dolphins, Rams All Pretty Bad

This season the New Orleans Saints, Miami Dolphins, and the St. Louis Rams all haven't won a game yet this year. Now this is strange for a number of reasons. I will admit I didn't really expect much out of the MIami Dolphins, but the New Orleans Saints collaspe is very strange indeed. A team that is just one year removed from a NFL championship game can't even win a game. Strange to say the least.

The St. Louis Rams is another very interesting group of guys who have struggled all year and even replacing the quarterback hasn't really helped. I guess them and the Miami Dolphins are just two bad teams. I guess we will have to see how things work out as the season goes on. Don't look for any major turnarounds though.

Cowboys vs Bills

The Dallas Cowboys head into the game with the Buffalo Bills with a lot more to lose than the Bills. The Cowboys now are the only undefeated team in the NFC and sitting pretty right now. The Buffalo Bills well have been terrible so far this year. Do you smell a route? Maybe or maybe not. The Bills have nothing to lose in this game so they will play loose.

The Cowboys on the other hand need this game as they play New England next week and you want to beat the teams you know you should beat. Buffalo is one of them. Losing to Buffalo before you play New England is not a good thing. Look for the Bills and Cowboys both to be ready, but in the end the Cowboys just have to many weapons.

Steelers Push Around Seahawks

The Pittsburgh Steelers know that the Arizona Cardinals game wasn't what they were all about. After losing to them the Steelers decide it was time to get back to Steeler football and that is just what they did. By running it at you and daring you to get in their way. The Seattle Seahawks were in the way and Wille Parker made sure they knew he was coming right at them. This reminded me of the old Steeler beat downs in the old days.

Give the Pittsburgh Steelers credit for not letting the Arizona cardinal game effect them and roll all over the Seahawks. This was a statement game for Indianapolis and New England. The Steelers were telling everyone were not going anywhere and in the end you will hear from us again.

Yankees Force Game 4 With 8-4 Win

With Joe Torre's job on the line and Roger Clemens maybe on the shelf again the New York Yankees got off the canvas for a 8-4 win over the Cleveland Indinas to force a game 4 tonight. The Yankees have heard it before Joe Torre is gone if they lose this series. The Yankees know what this means and they went oyt and played well. Johnny Damon was on fire and his three run homer sealed the deal for the Yankees.

They will need similar play tonight if they hope to advance to the next game. One lost and there done so this is another must win for the Yankees. Of course they have been doing this all year long so this should be nothing new for them.

Jeff Gordon Sneaky Devil, And Wins At Talladega

Jeff Gordon has learn a few things in his time as a Nascar Car Champion and driver. He has watched Dale Earnhardt and Mark Martin so he has learned a few things about sandbagging or waiting for your opportunity. Gordon only lead one lap all race long at Talladega, but it was the one that meant the most the final lap. Gordon now has the points lead and maybe tough to unseat anytime soon. I like the position Gordon is in right now.

Jimmie Johnson is second in the points while Clint Bowyer is third. Dale Earnhardt Jr and Martin Truex Jr had engine issues and didn't finish the race. It's a shame as both maybe could have won. I guess there is next year for them.
