Tom Osborne Named Temporary AD

Tom Osborne is once again part of the Nebraska Cornhusker family as he took the job as AD until they can find someone to replace Steve Pederson who was let go Monday. Pederson was the guy that Osborne told Nebraska to hire, but the relationship soured after the firing of his close friend Frank Solich is is now coach the Ohio Bobcats.

Bill Callahan hasn't been asked to quit just yet and I don't look for Osborne to ask him to either. If no improvement is seen than look for changes quickly. Osborne isn't a guy who stands pat especially when you talk about losing. Osborne is use to winning and won't stand long for losing especially by large scores. I'm sure Callahan will be on a very short leash.

Nebraska Fires AD

The Nebraska Cornhuskers fired their athletic director Steve Pederson citing lack of the football program showing progress. Trust me being a longtime Nebraska Cornhusker fan it runs a lot deeper than just the athletic director. First of all firing Frank Solich was a mistake as even though he did struggle he learned under Tom Osborne and knew a lot about the program. In fact Osborne even put in a good word for him and he still got fired.

Nebraska hasn't had a coach in there in awhile that has been able to bring top recruits into the program. Nebraska now gets the 6th and seventh best player around. This is why they are getting blown out all the time and can't stop anyone on defense. In fact for most Nebraska fans it's getting downright embarrassing. Firing the AD might be a start but the truth is they have many problems that are going to take years to fix. So this firing isn't really going to make any big difference. It's going to take time.

Now We Know It's Not Rex Grossman

Rex Grossman was benched in favor of Brian Griese and what has that done for the Bears nothing really. Grossman isn't the problem and until the Bears fix there problems they will keep losing. Griese is finding out that as quarterback of the Chicago bears. Grossman was benched in favor Griese and so far the results haven't really made much of a difference.

Looking deeper into the problems of the Bears you can see many flaws. The wide receivers are at best average. They get no separation from the there defensive man which puts the quarterback in a bad position. The defense isn't very good this year as they are missing some people, but the bottom line you have to make plays. Grossman isn't the problem and until you address the other problems they results will continue to be the same.

Boston College National Champions? Just Maybe!

One of the teams no one is talking about is the Boston College Eagles who just keep rolling along winning games and now is rated no. 4 in the country and could possibly have the Heisman Trophy winner in quarterback Matt Ryan.

Nothing really is said about Boston College by National Media all they do is keep winning. This is how they like it and their fans wouldn't have it any other way. One number stands out for me when talking about Boston College and that is there graduation rate on their football teams. Check there number against other big schools. Pretty impressive indeed.

1. LSU 51%
2. Cal 52%
3. Ohio State 53%
4. BC 93%
5. S. Florida 61%
6. Oklahoma 44%
7. S. Carolina 68%
8. W. Virginia 65%
9. Oregon 55%
10. USC 57%

Mariano Rivera Wants Torre Back

Mariano Rivera has an interesting take on the whole Joe Torre situation. It's really pretty simple for him why is he getting fired anyways. He doesn't play for us it's on us. Rivera also has said he would be more likely to come back to New York if Torre was around. Rivera still isn't happy he wasn't given an extension and may leave anyways.

You would think the New York Yankees would have signed him long term instead of waiting until the end of the season and take a chance of losing him. I guess this tells Rivera how important he really is to the Yankees.

When Is It To Old To Play Quarterback?

Well Vinny Testerverde is coming back at the age of 43 to play just a little bit more it seems. Testerverde has signed a contract with the Carolina Panthers to back up David Carr who is now the starting quarterback. It wouldn't shock me to see Testerverde in sometime during this season. People can say what they want about Vinny but he plays hard when he gets a chance.

The Panthers right now only have Carr and they wanted so veteran leadership and who else better to suited than Vinny Testerverde to calm things down and give some pointers to Carr when he needs them. Great signing for the Panthers.

A-Rod The Billion Dollar Man?

Scott Boras the agent of A-Rod think he can play to the age of 45 years old and set records such as 1,000 home runs and also have the all-time hit record. What's A-Rod worth than around one billion if you crunch Scott Boras numbers. In a perfect world that maybe true, but we don't live in a perfect world. A-Rod has become non-existent in the playoffs so in turn should never be paid that kind of money.

Let's really be realistic in this whole scenario. The only player I've ever seen in modern day sports that is worth that kind of money simply put was Michael Jordan. Jordan put up numbers in the regular season and when the playoffs got their he was in another gear. A-Rod just hasn't done that. Be happy with what you have now A-Rod. Until you prove it to America in the clutch your just another high paid superstar that delivers in the regular season and not the post season.
